We here at WSVH and WWIO are happy to air public service announcements (PSAs), as time allows during our local broadcasts. The purpose of a PSA is to inform listeners in your area of upcoming events and activities, at no charge to you. As you may imagine, this particular service is very popular. To make the process as smooth as possible and to ensure fairness, we have formulated the following policies and rules about public service announcements. Please read them carefully, and if you have any questions, please contact us at publicradio@wsvh.org (new address!), or 912-344-3565 (new number!).
Please note that during our twice-yearly membership campaigns, normally in April and October, PSAs are aired on a very limited basis, or not at all. And while anyone in the community may submit information, when or whether an announcement airs is always at the discretion of our staff.
1. All announcements should be typed.
2. Use regular mail or e-mail to send in announcements. We prefer NOT to receive PSAs via fax, since there are so many, they overload our fax machine. Our mailing address is:
WSVH/WWIO Public Radio
13040 Abercorn Street, Suite 8 (new address!)
Savannah, GA 31419
You may also e-mail announcements to publicradio@wsvh.org. (But see rule 3!)
3. Please send your PSA request so that it arrives at our office at least TWO WEEKS prior to the event date. This ensures that your announcement has the best chance of getting on the air. The two-week rule also applies to announcements sent in by e-mail!
4. Make sure you provide the following information:
Who The name and telephone number of a contact person for the event, which may be given out to interested callers. If necessary, also include any relevant telephone numbers for registration or further information. If the information is also available on your website, you may include that address as well.
What A brief description of the event or activity
Where Location of the event
When Date and time of the event
Cost Please mention any cost involved, for tickets, registration, etc. Although we are legally prohibited from mentioning price or cost on the air, we keep the information so we can assist interested callers
Don't worry about writing style. All PSAs are re-written for broadcast, to conform to our format and meet legal guidelines. Briefer is better, as long as the essential information is included.
5. If the date or time of your event is changed, or it is postponed or canceled, PLEASE let us know AS SOON AS POSSIBLE! Otherwise, we may continue to announce incorrect information, which is bad both for us and for your event.
6. Be aware that we are unable to determine in advance how often, or when, your PSA will air. Because this is a free service, our staff is obligated to fulfill paid announcements first. If you would like a guaranteed announcement at a certain time, with documentation, please contact our Underwriting Representative, Jeanie Allen, and see our Underwriting Information page.
7. NEW! PSAs on our website! We now include PSAs on our website, on our Community Calendar page, as a free service to help listeners find information on events of interest to them. These listings are the same as the announcements we use on air, and go through the same editing process, so all the above rules still apply.
8. In the event of a genuine emergency, we are able to take information over the phone, or by fax. Such emergencies would include emergency blood drives, military special assistance campaigns, etc. Our number is 912-344-3565.
We look forward to informing the community about your event!
