This month Georgia Public Radio's news magazine Georgia Gazette takes its annual summer vacation. While the show is on hiatus, we'll take a look back at some recent GPR productions that celebrate aspects of our state.


The Great American Brass Band Festival

Thursday, July 4 at 1:00 pm

Recorded at the 13th annual festival in Danville, Kentucky, this program includes performances of holiday music by more than twenty bands from a dozen states and two foreign countries. Also featured is Daniel Rodriguez, New York City's "singing policeman."

Talk of the Nation Fourth of July Special: Still Standing Tall

Thursday, July 4 at 2:00 pm

Live in New York City's Battery Park with host Neal Conan, this program explores themes of freedom and democracy through jazz. Wynton Marsalis and his orchestra along with Arturo O'Farrill, the Afro-Latin Jazz Orchestra, the Juilliard Jazz Ensemble, and other guests perform.


A Capitol Fourth

Thursday, July 4 at 8:00 pm

Erich Kunzel and the National Symphony Orchestra present a patriotic program, with guests including Aretha Franklin, Barry Bostwick, Jerry Hadley, Richard Chamberlain and Russell Watson. Simulcast with Georgia Public Television.


American Salute: The U.S. Marine Band in Concert

Thursday, July 4 at 9:30 pm

A patriotic program featuring "The President's Own."


The Altamaha: Georgia's Watershed

Friday, July 5 at 1:00 pm

This program focuses on the river that begins and ends in Georgia and drains over 40% of the state.
